A Question I Get Frequently…

imagePeople ask me all the time if I can show them a way or a product they can use to directly download YouTube videos or Google videos for use in their PowerPoint presentations. I think I’ve found a solution for Mac users.

Here’s what they say about the product verbatim:

Movavi Flash Converter for Mac - the ideal tool for downloading video from YouTube, Google and other popular video-sharing websites and converting Flash (.flv) videos to any format for any device. Now you can download and convert your online video favorites on your Mac! “

Look at the link below for more You can apparently get a Free Trial as well.
Movavi Flash Converter for Mac Personal ($39.99)

If anyone tries this program out or one of their PC versions, and it works well, I’d love to hear your feedback.

Thanks! Nan@BB

Outlook Social Connector is pretty cool stuff

image A lot of people don’t even know this snazzy little program exists but would surely use it if they could. It essentially shows you in Outlook what all your Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace people are posting and so much more. You should start by taking a look at the Microsoft Casual Blog videos (short and sweet here) and downloading the files if you want this cool feature in Outlook. I know it makes my life easier to look at all emails, tweets, posts etc. right from within Outlook instead of going to different sites.

Another new feature I’ll be starting on my website is a tech reviews page for software programs and other gadgets I use. I often receive lots of questions from individuals about the best program that can be used to edit videos for business or classes (without being too techy to do it) and I thought folks might find that useful.

I’ve also started to put together a Text Based Site Menu again, but only about 60% of all the pages are currently there – but you may find it useful as well.

Take it easy!

Apologies and a cool new download!

Sorry for the blog post which didn’t work at all for all of you yesterday! My bad. :)

Let me make it up to you by giving you a cool new download from Microsoft – absolutely free: the Outlook Attachment Detector (an add-in) looks in the text of emails for any attachments you may have mentioned and prompts you if by chance you forgot to actually attach something. It’s from Microsoft Labs and available from this page.

Microsoft Labs is much like Google Labs where you can go download and play with the latest greatest tekkie toys.

Enjoy and please share with others who may feel benefit…

I hear you loud and clear that some of you cannot access Facebook and our Fan site from where you work. So I will make every effort to post daily freebies at this blog as well. Have a happy week, all!

High Degree of Frustration with Office 2010 Installation

I am having such an incredibly high degree of frustration with installing Office 2010 Home and Business edition. I'm getting considerable errors over and over again - from the installation not recognizing a Q drive to errors for Click to Run to all kinds of other annoyances. Right now, I don't have Office and can't use it. Do NOT buy this software yet. My recommendation is to wait awhile.

Thanks, BB

Faculty Connection - 5 Amazing Downloads for Educators and Students

Every week, I try to bring you something new and different. As many of you know, the Microsoft site is simply gargantuan and many many free and useful resources get overlooked simply because they cannot be found.

This week, I came across the Microsoft Faculty Connection. With areas for both K-12 and Higher Education, there are many many free tutorials, software downloads, whitepapers, guides and more to explore.

I am highlighting this particular link below this week, but will be exploring the site in depth in coming weeks.

Faculty Connection - 5 Amazing Downloads for Educators and Students

In honor of National Computer Science Week (2009), Microsoft offered 5 incredible downloads for students and educators. These include:

  • Kodu – a visual programming language for children and adults who want to create games
  • Photosynth – an amazing new way to create environments from digital photos
  • Robotics Developer Studio – to create robotic applications
  • World Wide Telescope – Microsoft’s answer to Google Earth – but far better thought out and useful
  • and XNA Game Studio – another game creation application

Let the downloading begin! Have fun exploring and offering new ways for your own students to learn and create.

This comes under 2 cool FREE web graphic apps you’ve gotta try!

BBWordle

The first is a picture generating online app that takes a group of words and creates a really cool “Word Cloud” graphic. See the picture at left. This cloud graphic reflects some of the most used words from this very blog for example. You can copy and paste text or put in a blog URL and choose colors and backgrounds and fonts as well. Very cool and can be found at: www.wordle.net

sampad6c9a60240c2b4f The second is Image Chef. If you are a Facebook aficionado, you already know that Image Chef is one of the most widely used apps on the site. But if you go to their main site, you can find all kinds of fun ways to create graphics for free.  Here’s a graphic I created to the right in about one minute. :) I highly recommend this one!

PowerPoint 2010 Beta: How to make a video play in a shape

So, I'm playting around with the new PowerPoint 2010 beta version. It has lots of new and exciting features, but for me, I can really really see where video is going to make a big big impact on presentations from now on. I've got a brief tutorial on YouTube about playing video inside a shape here but that's barely scratching the surface of capabilities.

If you ever wanted to make e-learning with say, a narrator or a small circle with a person's face with video explaining each slide for a self-running presentation, these things are all now possible! I'll create more tutorials about this in the week ahead!

Stay warm everyone on the East Coast of the U.S. and the Midwest! The snow and ice are YUCK. I cannot wait for spring!

P.S. Oh! I have a contest on our BB Facebook fan page for a $25 gift certificate to Amazon.com for providing some feedback about what you'd like to see more of at BB in 2010! Be sure and enter and become a fan. The drawing is on Sunday, Jan 10 at 9 P.M. EDT
